Who do you recommend as the new spokesperson? Generally very good. Report on Improvement for H&F MP3 Players
1. Introduction
In view of the unsatisfactory performance of our MP3 players in the market, it is critical to identify the problems and propose recommendations for each issue.
This report states four problems that caused the poor sales of our MP3 players. The objective is to increase our market share of our products. After the analysis, there will be a conclusion which is followed by several recommendations.
2. Procedures
The findings for this analysis are based upon market research done by M&D Market Research Company in February 2011. The research was carried out in relation to our competitor, iGADGET. A total of 200 users for each brand were interviewed. The researching firm also investigated our market share, from March 2010 to February 2011, as compared to iGADGET.
3. Findings
3.1 Overview
Referring to attachment 1, the overall satisfaction with our company and iGADGET were surveyed. There are six aspects, including design, functions, sound quality, battery life, headphone quality and overall satisfaction. Interviewees responded positively to some of the aspects, but three problems have been identified. Overall, our company get lower satisfaction than iGADGET.
As for the attachment 2, the market share of our product declined continuously over the last 12 months.
3.2 Design
Less than half of the respondents are satisfied with the design of our MP3 players, while nearly 9 out of 10 are happy with our competitor's product. This may be due to the limited color range of our MP3 player. We have only 2 colors whereas iGADGET offers a wide range of 10 colors. As a result, consumers prefer to purchase iGADGET MP3 players rather than ours.
3.3 Functions
About three-fifths of interviewees are discontented with the functions of our MP3 players. In contrast, only two-fifths of the users feel that the functions of iGADGET MP3 player are a problem. A reason for this is that it is inconvenient for users to install a software program for transferring of music files.
3.4 Headphone quality
There is only one-third of respondents showing satisfaction with the headphone quality. For this issue, iGADGET obtained a slightly higher percentage but also a very disappointing result. It seems that the quality control function of our manufacturing plant in Malaysia is poor. Consequently, this may affect our brand reputation.
3.5 Market Share
The market share occupied by our company gradually decreased over the year. However, our rival maintain its position in the industry with more than half of the market share. This may be attributed by all the above problems. Also, the spokesperson may not be suitable for our target customers and the image of our brand. He may not be attractive to young consumers.
4. Conclusion
According to the research, it is necessary for our company to improve our MP3 players, especially in the aspects of design, functions, headphone quality and market share.
5. Recommendations
5.1 Design
Since we have a problem with the design of products, we should introduce more colors for our MP3 players, for example red, yellow, purple and blue. This may be very appealing to young people and increase the popularity of our brand.
5.2 Functions
Given the fact that the functions of our MP3 players are not as good as iGADGET, our IT department should design a new system that enables users to transfer music from computer by simply dragging files over. Consumers may find it more user-friendly.
5.3 Headphone quality
In the light of the poor quality control, more training should be provided for our quality controllers. They should be well-informed of the company's quality standard. The effect of this action is an enhancement of our brand reputation.
5.4 Market Share
In view of the fact that we have a low market share in the industry as compared with iGADGET, it is proposed that we should invite a new spokesperson who has a image similar to ours. Furthermore, the sales of our MP3 players should be improved.
